Annette Adams, PhDWhy do you want to serve as a leader of the College?: The American College of Epidemiology has been my professional home for over 17 years, and I want to build upon the great work of previous ACE presidents in broadening and expanding ACE membership, engaging members of all ranks and from all professional settings, and bolstering ACE’s reputation as the premiere professional organization for epidemiologists. The College has as its mission serving the interests of epidemiology as a profession, as well as the promotion and development of epidemiologists as professional practitioners, educators, and researchers. If elected, I would seek to further guide and support efforts to broaden and expand ACE membership and continue efforts to engage Associate and early career members in the College to enhance their career development, thereby enriching the pipeline of future ACE leadership. Contributing to the College and serving our membership’s interests is a pleasure and a privilege – and a responsibility I do not take lightly. As I have grown professionally and progressed through various roles within ACE, I have witnessed first-hand the commitment and dedication common to all of ACE’s leaders. I have great appreciation for the importance of the work the College does. I wish to do all I can to continue to advance ACE’s mission and support both my profession and my professional peers. What are your qualifications and experiences that will help you in service as a leader?: As a longtime member, committee member, and passionate supporter of ACE, I have the history, dedication, and experience to lead this organization as President-Elect. I joined ACE as an Associate Member in 2006, achieved promotion to Member in 2009, and became an ACE Fellow in 2019. Along the way, I have served on the Board of Directors as an Associate member and again as a Fellow. I have served on the Education, Policy, and Admissions committees, and four Annual Meeting Program Planning Committees, including serving as the Scientific Program Chair for the 2019 ACE Annual Meeting held in Pasadena, California. I am an Editorial Board member for the Annals of Epidemiology and sit on the Board of Directors for the Epidemiology Foundation. Each of these roles has enabled and enhanced my understanding of how the College works, shown me what we are doing well, and revealed our areas for improvement. Additionally, these experiences within ACE and my experiences as a Research Scientist for Kaiser Permanente Southern California have helped me to develop and hone skills in management, collaboration, team building, and facilitating consensus among stakeholders – all of which place me in an excellent position to serve as President-Elect of the American College of Epidemiology. It would be a great privilege to contribute to ACE as President-Elect and I would be honored to receive your support. |
