Jan Eberth is an Associate Professor in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the University of South Carolina and the Director of the Rural and Minority Health Research Center, funded by the Federal Office of Rural Health Policy. Dr. Eberth received her PhD from the University of Texas School Of Public Health and a postdoctoral fellowship from MD Anderson Cancer Center. The focus of her research is cancer health disparities, particularly socioeconomic and structural barriers that impede access and utilization to cancer screening and treatment. Over the past ten years, she has published >100 scientific articles and policy briefs, and presented her research at numerous scientific meetings and invited seminars across the U.S. Dr. Eberth is a leader within the cancer prevention and control community in South Carolina and nationwide, serving as an invited member of the National Lung Cancer Roundtable and Vice-Chair of the Roundtable’s Provider Engagement and Outreach Task Group, consultant for the Association of State and Territorial Health Officers (ASTHO) Breast Cancer Disparities Learning Community, and past Co-Chair of the Cancer Prevention and Control Research Network’s Rural Cancer Work Group. She is also an active member of the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, a grassroots volunteer organization that advocates for the advancement of cancer research and policy. Dr. Eberth is a Fellow of the American College of Epidemiology and has been active in the college since 2007. She served on the ACE Board of Directors as its Associate Member representative from 2008-2010, Vice-Chair of the Communications Committee from 2010-2013, Chair of the Communications Committee from 2014-2016, and a second term on the Board of Directors starting in 2018. Dr. Eberth has also served as an Associate Editor and special issue Guest Editor for the Annals of Epidemiology, the official journal of ACE.
